The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Thursday that the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Gujarat on June 15.
“The southwest monsoon reached Kerala and parts of the northeast on Thursday. It is expected to set in over Gujarat on June 15, which is the usual date for the monsoon’s arrival in the state,” said Ramashray Yadav, a scientist at the Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad.
Yadav mentioned that the weather will stay dry for the next seven days, with a warning of “strong surface winds” affecting most parts of the state over the next two days.
“Strong surface winds of about 30 km per hour will be experienced in most parts of Gujarat during the next two days. A dust storm warning has been issued for Kutch, Patan, Banaskantha, Surendranagar, and parts of the Saurashtra region for the next two days,” Yadav added.
Amidst extreme heat, the maximum daytime temperatures in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar were recorded at 42.8 and 42.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Thursday.
