Ten people were killed in a horrific road accident on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad express highway today near Nadiad. Six of the total deceased have been identified by the authorities, while the identities of the remaining four are still being ascertained.
The accident occurred when a car carrying 10 passengers collided with a stationary trailer parked on the highway.
According to the police, the car was not a registered taxi but was carrying passengers illegally. All the deceased hailed from Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Valsad, Nadiad, Mumbai, and Rajasthan.
Their bodies were shifted to the Nadiad civil hospital, where their post-mortem is to be conducted.
Kheda superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Gadhvi notified that the trailer was parked on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad express highway due to a technical fault. The car, carrying ten people, rammed into the stationary tanker at high speed, resulting in the death of eight people on the spot. Two injured passengers were rushed to the hospital, but they also succumbed to their injuries.
He added that the authorities reached the spot immediately, extricated the bodies from the car, and are in the process of contacting the families of all the deceased. Teams have also been formed to complete the legal formalities.
