In response to the alarming number of deaths in the river from 2014 to 2022, totaling 1,561, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation has decided to take preventive action. Recognizing the rising mental health and anxiety issues leading to extreme measures, the AMC plans to install suicide prevention signboards on seven bridges spanning the Sabarmati River in the city.
These signs will carry the message ‘suicide is not the solution’ along with a toll-free number for assistance and guidance. This initiative aims to encourage those in distress to seek help and provide a supportive resource in times of need.
