The Consumer Commission has slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on a pizza outlet after it charged for container boxes for pizza because the outlet had printed its advertisement.
Besides directing a pizza outlet in Shahibagh area, New Freeze Land (Balaji Enterprises) to deposit Rs 10,000 in the Consumer Welfare Fund within 60 days, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ahmedabad (City) has ordered customers to refund Rs 12. which was charged for corrugated boxes.
The commission ordered it to pay GST duty refund and an additional Rs 3,000 as compensation for mental torture and post-trial costs to the customer.
In April 2021, a customer named Harmin Shah ordered a takeaway pizza from New Freeze Land and paid Rs 263, which included Rs 11.95 as a pizza box charge.
The customer disputed the charge for the pizza box and sued the restaurant with the Consumer Commission.
