Five people were killed and five others were injured Wednesday morning when a private vehicle rammed into a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus as they were waiting at one of the stops in the Kalol area of Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
The deceased have been identified as Dilipsinh Vihol, 48, Parth Patel, 20, Balvantji Thakor, 45, Sharda Jagaria, 50, and Savan Darji, 22—all residents of the Kalol district.
Virendra Kher, Police Inspector, Kalol city police station, said, ‘The incident took place at around 7:20 am when the state transport bus near the Ambikapur bus stand was taking a turn to its left to park at the stop and a speeding private bus came and hit the other on the driver’s side. As a result, the ST bus rammed into the railing. The waiting passengers were crushed between the bus and the railing. Five people died and five were injured.’
The passengers inside the state transport bus and its driver were not injured, according to officials.
Those injured were sent to the hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. The bodies of the dead have been sent for post- mortem examination to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, according to officials.
