The 58th convocation of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) was attended by Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. The ceremony took place on Sunday at the Louis Kahn Plaza, which has hosted all graduating students since 1974.
This year, the institute graduated 597 students, including 380 from the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), 48 from the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM), 140 from the one-year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX), and 29 from the Ph.D. Programme in Management (Ph.D).
With the graduation of these classes, the IIM-A alumni network has grown to 41,875, spread across the globe. The PGPX Class of 2023-24 will arrive in April, followed by the PGP and PGP-FABM classes in June 2023.
Meanwhile, Pankaj R. Patel, Chairperson of the IIMA Board of Governors, Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM-A, Board members, and faculty members attended the event on Sunday. “The most powerful institute of a leader is leadership by example, demonstrating courage, sacrifice, hope, confidence, innovation, hard work, truth, fairness, transparency, accountability, austerity, discipline, a good-value system, and open-mindedness,” Narayana Murthy said in his Convocation address. Your true character is revealed by how you act when you are at the top, have power and wealth. Grace, courtesy, and humility shown to others in such situations reveal the true you.”
Murthy also recalled how he founded Infosys and the value system he upheld throughout his career. “In our organisation, no castle, religion, social background, or economic background matters; only meritocracy matters.” Everyone shares the same lunch area and restrooms. We make no distinctions. We fought for our ethics and value system, and while we sacrificed a lot for it, we also gained a lot as a result of it.
When there is a fog on your windscreen in the future, I hope these time-invariant ideas will help you gain clarity. These ideals will serve as the finish line. “Be anything that will demonstrate the integrity of your mission,” he added.
“As students of this institution, there is no doubt of the talent that you possess and the value that you will bring to the institutions that you will join or establish,” Pankaj R. Patel said. There are a lot of expectations from you.” He encouraged the students to continue building on their knowledge and to remain curious and open to new ideas.?
