Ravichandran Ashwin broke Anil Kumble’s long-standing record in the IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Friday.
On Day 2 of the IND vs AUS 4th Test in Ahmedabad, Ashwin finished with 6/91 as India bowled out Australia for 480 in their first innings.
Ashwin needed five wickets in the India vs. Australia Ahmedabad Test to surpass Anil Kumble’s 111 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
After the end of Day 2 of the IND vs AUS Ahmedabad Test, 39-year-old Ashwin now has 112 wickets to his name, making him India’s highest wicket-taker in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history.
Australia’s senior spinner Nathan Lyon (113 wickets from 25 IND-AUS Tests) is the leading wicket-taker in Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s history. Second in this list is now India’s Ashwin with 112 scalps.
If Ashwin takes five more wickets in the ongoing Ahmedabad Test or later in any other series, he will become only the third Indian after Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble to take 700 international wickets.
India, 2-1 up in the four-match IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy, have to beat Australia in the ongoing ND vs AUS Ahmedabad Test to qualify for the WTC Final.
