Nityanandam, a former director general of police of Gujarat and an enthusiastic birdwatcher, took part in the waterfowl census in Porbandar for the second year in a row last week.
Nityanandam, a birdwatcher who will oversee other birdwatchers on the field, was introduced during the two-day count’s inauguration ceremony. The former top cop acknowledged that he owns two guns and a few batons, but he made it clear that neither of those items was intended for use during the bird census.
The waterbird census’s chief guest, Porbandar Collector Ashok Sharma, received praise for his kind deed of inviting a Rajasthan university student and a woman who came to take part in the census to light the ceremonial lamp. Sharma insisted that the young female birdwatchers light the lamp when asked to do so. Later, he expressed the hope that his action would inspire women to support bird conservation.
