The class 10 Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) exams, which will take place in March 2023 have attracted more than 9.4 lakh students’ registrations. 9,41,671 students had registered by the time the registration period was over, rise of 16,097 students seen this year as compared to last year. As repeat students are included in the figure, officials explained that an increase in enrollment does not necessarily indicate an increase in regular enrollment. The number of students appearing the exam in 2022 reported a decrease following widespread promotion in 2021.
Since the board exam was administered in 2022 in accordance with standard procedures, some students who failed the repeaters’ exam may have registered for the 2023 exam. In a letter to the board, State School Management Association office-holder Bhaskar Patel requested changes to the board’s seat allocation for repeaters. In the Gujarat board’s class 10 and 12 exams, an estimated 2 lakh students appear the exams again. Patel said in the letter, “Usually, the board allocates seats to repeaters at just one centre in the district. Students have to travel long distances which inconveniences them physically and financially. Repeat students should be allotted seats in the same city or town as their school.”
