Three people were arrested with foreign-made liquor from Panvel Railway Station in a joint operation by the Railway Police and the Panvel unit of the State Excise Department. They also seized Rs 96,320 in foreign liquor from them.
Punit Vishwanath Khandagale, 34, a resident of Udhana in Surat, Rajan Kumar Ramnath Singh, 40, also of Surat, and Ghulam Farid Mohammad Sharif Shaikh, 30, also of Surat, were arrested.
A search was being conducted at General Coach (GS-1) of the Goa Sampark Kranti Express, which was standing on platform number 5, based on a tip from officials from the Railway police and state excise. Three people were seen sitting suspiciously in the coach, carrying 9 bags and 2 large plastic bags. When they inquired about the bags, they admitted that they were theirs and that they had brought them from Goa to sell in Surat, Gujarat.
Following that, the bags were searched, and they discovered sealed bottles of various brands of Goa-made foreign liquor. They were apprehended, and liquor worth Rs 96,320 was seized.
