If the civic bodies are to be believed, the monsoon-damaged roads in Bopal, South Bopal (SoBo), and Ghuma, which are located in the North-West and South-West zones of the AMC, would be fixed and resurfaced before Navratri.
The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has been asked to collaborate with the AMC to ensure that the main town planning highways in these areas are smoothed up prior to the festival. Residents in the neighbourhood are extremely concerned about the area’s potholed roadways.
A source close to the development said AUDA is laying an estimated 90 km of water pipelines to provide Narmada water to every household in the area.
“But after the areas came under the AMC, the road repair work is their responsibility. Since AMC lacks funds to repair the same, they have requested AUDA to build the roads once the water pipelines are laid,” said the source.
An AUDA official said since the AMC has requested them to build the roads it will be done in the next fortnight.
He said the AMC will still have to do final resurfacing work on the roads. AUDA officials said the road repair work in Bopal and SoBo will be completed before Navratri but it will continue in Ghuma as the water pipeline project deadline is June 2023. The civic body may however hasten the pipeline project. An AUDA official said additional road work may cost the civic body Rs 1.5 crore.
AUDA agreed to the AMC’s request because AMC commissioner Lochan Sehra is also the chairman of AUDA and suggested it.
