The USIBC 2022 Global Leadership Award went to billionaire Gautam Adani on Wednesday in recognition of his efforts to advance India-US relations. At its India Ideas Summit in New Delhi, the U.S. India Business Council presented the honour to the chairman of the Adani Group.
“While negotiators from both our countries have struggled to reach a deal on a trade package and tariffs, I believe we are closer than ever before to address the open matters,” Adani said at the summit.
Adani, while delivering his speech at the summit, highlighted that the joint ability of India and the U.S. to impact the world has “never been greater and the need has never been larger”.
The Adani Group chairman pointed out the strategic areas where both the nations need to make a combined effort. These areas are climate change, semiconductors, healthcare and defence and cyber
“I would therefore urge the USIBC to facilitate a broader platform that brings together executives from similar industries on both sides on a regular basis. There are a lot of gains to divide with the size of the two economies beginning to converge as we approach 2050,” Adani said.
According to Press Trust of India, which on September 2 cited a statement from the council, the Global Leadership Award recognises the active and dynamic dedication of senior corporate executives to improving U.S.-India partnerships. The award has been given annually since 2007.
Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, spoke during the meeting on Wednesday. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Indian minister for external affairs, and Jennifer Granholm, the American secretary of energy, will also take part.
