Active COVID-19 cases cross 2,000 in Gujarat with 50% cases from Ahmedabad

With 380 new COVID-19 cases, Gujarat’s active cases tally reached 2,098 on Friday, highest since February 27. Out of the total, 1,009 or nearly half are in Ahmedabad alone.

Three districts in Gujarat, namely Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara, have more than 200 active cases. Apart from Ahmedabad’s 1,009, Surat had 372 and Vadodara 232 active cases.

With the update, Gujarat became the 10th Indian state to have 2,000 or more active COVID-19 cases. Among the 10 states, Gujarat is ranked 5th in terms of rise in the weekly COVID cases.

The city on Friday recorded 155 new Covid cases, which was 15% drop compared to 182 on Thursday. Gujarat also recorded 9% drop in cases from 416 to 380.

Other cases in Gujarat included 59 from Surat city, 34 from Vadodara city, 16 from Navsari, 15 from Surat, 11 from Valsad, and 9 from Bhavnagar city. Out of total active cases, 3 were on ventilator.

Experts said that hospitalization in the city, and state at large, has remained low, and this month three deaths of the Covid patients have been recorded, which indicate relatively less mortality rate compared to three waves of the pandemic so far.

Gujarat vaccinated 7,149 people in 24 hours for the first dose and 22,132 people for the second. In total, 5.4 crore people receive the first dose of Covid vaccine and 5.31 crore people receive the second dose.
