A leopard has been spotted near the airport in the Union Territory of Daman, prompting district authorities to issue a warning, urging residents to remain vigilant until the big cat is apprehended.
While sources in the Daman forest department said that the leopard was spotted entering the airport premises in footage captured by a CCTV camera .
Daman Deputy Collector Mohit Mishra stated that forest guards were on high alert, regularly monitoring CCTV footage and attempting to locate the leopard. Officials believe the leopard is still inside the airport and have set up two cages to capture it.
According to forest department sources, this is the first time a leopard has been spotted in Daman, and it most likely came from Gujarat’s Valsad district, where leopards are seen.
Meanwhile, the Daman administration has advised residents not to leave their homes alone at night and to keep small children and domestic pets safe.
People have also been asked to avoid sleeping outside their homes or on open terraces. Tourists and hikers have been advised not to venture into lonely and isolated areas until the animal has been apprehended.
