Covid-19 cases slip below 12,000; daily death toll rises

The Covid-19 cases continue to decline in Gujarat and fell below the 12,000 mark on Saturday, the state health department said.

The state reported 11,974 cases today, as against 12,131 a day earlier. The daily death toll due to Covid in Gujarat was 33, up for 30 the previous day.

New cases fell below 4,000 in Ahmedabad city which reported 3,990 cases. It was followed by Vadodara city with 1,816 cases, Rajkot city 716 and Surat city 511.

Vadodara rural reported 441 cases, Surat rural 368, Gandhinagar city 326, Mehsana 313, Patan 280, Rajkot rural 266, Kutch 263, Jamnagar city 2214, Bharuch 207 and Bhavnagar city 203 cases. The other cities recorded fewer than 200 cases during the day.

Ahmedabad city once again accounted for the maximum deaths, with seven patients succumbing to the infection. Bhavnagar city recorded four deaths while three each were reported from Vadodara city, Rajkot city and Surat rural.

Surat city, Rajkot rural, Anand and Valsad recorded two deaths each, while Kheda, Jamnagar rural, Ahmedabad rural, Bhavnagar rural and Botad had one death each.

The recovery rate rose to 90.53 per cent, with 21,655 patients recovering from the infection during the day.

The active caseload of Covid in the state fell below 1 lakh and currently stands at 98,021.

Over 2.13 lakh persons were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the cumulative vaccination to over 9.75 crore.
