Tata Motors, India’s commercial vehicle manufacturer, has delivered 60 electric buses to Ahmedabad’s BRT system (BRTS). The Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC buses were officially launched today at Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati River Front Event Centre.
The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Mayor of Ahmedabad Kirti Kumar Parmar, and dignitaries from the Gujarat State Government, AJL, and Tata Motors.
The zero-emission buses, which will run on Ahmedabad’s Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor, were supplied under the FAME II initiative through a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) with AJL. Tata Motors will also install the necessary charging infrastructure and support systems to ensure the buses run smoothly.
“We are delighted to deliver Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 electric buses to AJL,” said Rohit Srivastava, Vice President, Product Line – Buses, Tata Motors. The Ultra Urban 9/9 was designed to provide enhanced comfort, safety, and efficiency, as well as noiseless operation and zero emissions.”
“The delivery of these buses will strengthen our fruitful partnership with AJL and promote eco-friendly mass mobility in Ahmedabad,” he added.
Full-electric drivetrains with a maximum power of 328hp and a maximum torque of 3000Nm power the Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric buses. Their spacious interiors include plush interior lighting and can be customised according to application and regulations.
According to the company, the Ultra Urban 9/9 e-buses are also equipped with a regenerative braking system, new-generation telematics, and a high-security Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to provide smooth and efficient operations.
