Covid-19 cases spike again in Ahmedabad, govt begins compensation payment process

After falling to single digits, Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad city nearly doubled on Tuesday, even as cases also shot up in the state.

According to health department data, Ahmedabad city reported 17 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, which was the highest since November 17 when the tally was 28. Ahmedabad had reported nine cases on Monday and four cases the previous day.

The state’s overall tally also went up from 25 to 36, largely due to the spike in cases in Ahmedabad. Vadodara city reported six cases, and Navsari three. Separately, the state government initiated the process for paying ex gratia compensation of Rs. 50,000 each to family members of people who lost their lives to Covid-19. According to a senior government official, the state government has decided to release the compensation to the 10,000+ families as per the Supreme Court’s directions.
