After falling to single digits, Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad city nearly doubled on Tuesday, even as cases also shot up in the state.
According to health department data, Ahmedabad city reported 17 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, which was the highest since November 17 when the tally was 28. Ahmedabad had reported nine cases on Monday and four cases the previous day.
The state’s overall tally also went up from 25 to 36, largely due to the spike in cases in Ahmedabad. Vadodara city reported six cases, and Navsari three. Surat, Rajkot, and Jamnagar cities reported two cases, while Gir Somnath, Valsad, Jamnagar, and Surat district reported one case, as per health department bulletin. Navsari reported one Covid-related death taking the cumulative death toll in the state to 10,092.
Separately, the state government initiated the process for paying ex gratia compensation of Rs. 50,000 each to family members of people who lost their lives to Covid-19. According to a senior government official, the state government has decided to release the compensation to the 10,000+ families as per the Supreme Court’s directions.
More than 5.10 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the state yesterday, taking the total to 7.79 crore. More than 3.25 crore people have received both doses, while 1.20 crore recipients have been given a single dose. In Ahmedabad city, the number of fully vaccinated people is nearing 30 lakh. More than 29.85 lakh Amdavadis have received both doses, while 17.6 lakh have received one dose.
