Ahmedabad: With Covid-19 cases in the city showing a sharp uptick, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has declared two more micro containment zones.
The AMC declared eight houses in Karmanya Flat on Ambawadi and six houses in Tulip Citadel in Navrangpura as micro containment zones on Wednesday evening. With this, the number of micro containment zones in the city has gone up to four.
Last week, AMC had declared some houses in Isanpur as micro containment zone, which was the first in more than five months since the practice was stopped due to a dip in cases. The corporation also announced that Kankaria, Sabarmati riverfront, public transport such as AMTS and BRTS, and other AMC-run public spaces would be out of bounds for those who are not fully vaccinated.
The measure comes amid a steep rise in daily Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad. The city reported 28 cases on Wednesday, which was more than 50% higher than the previous day, and the highest since June 23. The city has accounted for more than half of the state’s Covid-19 caseload for the last three consecutive days, even as the state’s tally has also been rising since the Diwali festivities and touched a four-month high of 54 yesterday.
The state government is set to launch a special drive to intensify the vaccination drive in Ahmedabad and elsewhere. In Ahmedabad city, 28.75 lakh people have received both doses of the vaccine, while 18.46 lakh have received one dose as of Thursday, as per Co-WIN data.
