Taxes for hotels, gyms, and other businesses are waived by AMC

Ahmedabad: As a result of lockdowns imposed during the Covid pandemic, hotels, restaurants, multiplexes, amusement parks, and gyms in Ahmedabad will waive property tax collections worth Rs 48 crore.
AMC data, thousands of properties under these categories will benefit from the waiver scheme of the state government.
The government had made an announcement six months ago of a one-year property tax waiver for these private sector establishments across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad city. The implementation of this is being done now.
The AMC has sent property bills to the residential and commercial units, but avoided sending them to the categories that have been exempted.
An AMC official said on condition of anonymity, “There are 5,521 properties in corporation limits whose property tax worth Rs 47.90 crore will be waived for the year 2021-22. The state government had sanctioned a grant of Rs 47.90 crore to AMC. The corporation will begin implementation of the tax waiver once the municipal commissioner signs the file.”
The entire state has been severely impacted by the Covid pandemic since March 2020. As a result, there was a three-month lockdown, followed by partial curfew for almost a year. This hit many businesses, causing financial issues among employers and employees working in hotels, gyms etc.
The state government had announced Atma Nirbhar packages of Rs 14,000 crore as aid to businesses.
