Ahmedabad: In a question of pride for the city and a jolt for its ambitious soul, Ahmedabad’s organizations have arisen as second-best paymasters in the arrangements for Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad’s PGPX (Post Graduate Program for Executives) clump.
Despite a slow economy recovery amid the pandemic, companies in Gujarat’s financial capital are only second to business giants like Google, Amazon and Microsoft who were the top hirers this placement season at the premier B-School.
While companies in Bengaluru offered the highest salary of Rs 82 lakh per annum, firms from Ahmedabad set to revolutionise the electric mobility sector offered the second-best salary at Rs47,07, 348, knocking out top business cities like Mumbai, Pune, NCR and Hyderabad. These figures are from the latest audited reports of PGPX placements.
Last year’s report notes that a firm from Ahmedabad had offered annual pay package of Rs 41 lakh while NCR and Bengaluru firms offered Rs 81 lakh and Rs 71.50 lakh respectively.
The news about city emerging as the second-best paymaster, scooping up crème de la crème of talent is heartening especially when Gujarat, though business-friendly, usually falls out of favour among bright minds due to the prohibition policy and a lacklustre nightlife. Those enrolling for the one-year PGPX course at the institute come with substantial professional experience.
Professor Ankur Sinha, Chairperson of the Placement Committee at IIMA, said, “Among the 30 students from PGPX 2021 batch placed in Bengaluru, the highest salary offered is Rs 82 lakh per annum. And amongst the five students placed in Ahmedabad, the highest salary offered is Rs 47 lakh per annum which also happens to be the second highest in the list.”
IIMA’s Recruitment Secretary for the PGPX batch Sitakant Tripathy said, “Ahmedabad does offer some advantages over its metro counterparts like good infrastructure, safety and a moderate cost of living minus the traffic congestion. For those with families and kids, the city offers great schooling and extracurricular facilities. From a business perspective also, Ahmedabad seems to be spearheading the renewables, automobile and EV space, providing ample challenging opportunities for professionals.”
