The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has extended the deadline for its New Amnesty Scheme, 2025, by three months to December 31, 2026, giving employers and insured individuals more time to settle pending disputes.
The scheme was initially scheduled to run from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026. Following feedback from stakeholders, ESIC decided to extend the deadline while retaining the existing rules and conditions.
The amnesty scheme is a one-time dispute resolution initiative aimed at reducing the backlog of court cases and improving compliance with the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Act. It allows employers to resolve disputes with ESIC without prolonged legal proceedings.Under the scheme, employers can settle disputes by paying the actual contributions and interest, without any penalties.
Employers who have already cleared their outstanding dues can withdraw cases by paying just 10% of the disputed penalties.Cases related to delayed payments or failure to submit records can also be withdrawn with court approval, provided the required compliance has since been completed.
According to the official statement, cases filed in court on or before March 31, 2025, are eligible for the scheme. The extended deadline offers eligible employers and insured individuals additional time to take advantage of the initiative.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has urged all eligible stakeholders to use the opportunity before the scheme closes on December 31, 2026.
Meanwhile, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently said that ESIC provides health security to around 250 million people across India.
