A 17-year-old Class 12 student allegedly set herself on fire at a government school in Krishna Nagar, in Delhi’s Shahdara district, on Saturday. Police have recovered a three-page note in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway.
However, authorities have not officially confirmed whether the student has died or provided an update on her condition.
The incident came to light after police received a PCR call reporting a fire at the school. A team from Krishna Nagar police station rushed to the spot and found the student in a burnt condition behind the school’s guard room, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said in a statement.
According to police, the student’s family identified her as 17 years old. During the preliminary investigation, officials recovered certain materials from the spot and the student’s school bag. A crime scene team was also called in to examine the location and collect evidence.
Fire brigade personnel and police officers were present at the school as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Three-Page Note Recovered
Preliminary reports indicate that a three-page note was recovered from the student. There are also reports that she may have carried a bottle containing a chemical substance, possibly petrol, to the school. However, police have not officially confirmed these details.
Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the note or identified the materials recovered during the initial investigation.
The DCP said investigators were examining the circumstances that led to the incident and that further inquiry was underway. Police are analysing the evidence collected from the scene to establish the sequence of events.
Further details, including an official update on the student’s condition and the contents of the recovered note, are awaited as the investigation continues.
