Aircraft carrying around 250 passengers diverted after brief Squawk 7500 signal
An Air India flight travelling from Frankfurt to Delhi made an emergency landing at Jaipur Airport on Wednesday following a reported hijack alert. The aircraft, operating as flight AI-2030 and carrying around 250 passengers, was diverted after Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) reportedly received a brief Squawk 7500 signal.
The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur Airport and was moved to the airport’s isolation bay at around 9.45 am for security checks.
According to initial reports, the pilot transmitted the Squawk 7500 code for a few seconds. In aviation, the code indicates a hijacking or unlawful interference with an aircraft. The brief signal reportedly alerted security agencies and prompted precautionary measures, leading to the diversion.
After landing, the aircraft was moved to a designated isolation area, where security personnel could inspect it separately from other aircraft and assess any potential threat.
An official confirmation regarding the reported hijack alert is awaited. The circumstances that led to the diversion have not yet been confirmed.
