Worker dies after wall collapses at LG Hospital construction site

A 27-year-old labourer died after a wall collapsed at the construction site of a new building on the premises of LG Hospital in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar area on Tuesday.

According to police, soil excavation work was underway near the new building when pressure from the soil caused an adjacent wall to suddenly collapse. The wall fell on Chutan Shukrumar Mandal, a labourer originally from Malda district of West Bengal.

The incident took place around 9am while Mandal was working at the site. He was seriously injured and fell unconscious after being trapped under the debris. His fellow worker, Krishna, immediately took him to the ICU at LG Hospital, where doctors began treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was declared dead around 11am.

Police probe possible negligenceAfter receiving information from the hospital, Maninagar police reached the spot and began an investigation. Police recorded the statement of the deceased’s wife, Jumaben Vagchi, conducted an inquest and sent the body for postmortem.

A case of accidental death has been registered. Police are also investigating whether any negligence during the soil excavation or construction work contributed to the wall collapse. If negligence is established, further criminal action may be taken against those responsible.
