The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Standing Committee has directed officials to prepare a new fare policy to make AMTS buses more affordable for weddings and other social events. The move comes after the civic body observed that the existing rental charges were prompting people to choose private luxury buses.
At present, hiring an AMTS bus for an event costs ₹4,000 for a one-way trip and another ₹4,000 for the return journey, taking the total fare to ₹8,000. The Standing Committee said the high cost, along with the limited capacity of around 30 passengers, was discouraging citizens from using AMTS buses for social functions.
The issue was discussed during the Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, following which officials were asked to work out a revised policy to reduce the financial burden on citizens and encourage greater use of AMTS buses. The proposal has also been discussed with the Chairman of the AMTS Committee.
The move aims to make public transport a more practical and affordable option for citizens organising weddings and other social gatherings.
