Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner has questioned the cleanliness standards behind Naranpura ward being declared the city’s cleanest ward, amid a rise in dengue cases across the city.The issue came up during a review meeting on the dengue situation, where officials reported 172 new dengue cases in Ahmedabad in a single week. Sola, Gota and Vasantnagar townships were among the areas reporting a higher number of cases.
Taking a strict stand on mosquito breeding, the Commissioner ordered that construction sites found with mosquito breeding be sealed for seven days. Water distribution stations where breeding is detected will also face penalties, with the concerned employee liable for a salary-level fine and the responsible agency facing a ₹10,000 penalty.
The Commissioner also directed officials to take action against private hospitals that fail to submit disease-related data to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. At present, only 155 private hospitals are regularly submitting reports, officials said.During the meeting, officials presented details of Naranpura being declared the cleanest ward under an ongoing cleanliness campaign.
Reacting to the award, the Commissioner made a sarcastic remark, questioning the gap between such awards and the actual cleanliness conditions on the ground.He stressed that the civic body should focus on visible, ground-level cleanliness rather than awards based only on paperwork or presentations.
