After a relatively weak spell of rainfall in several parts of Gujarat, rain activity is expected to increase from September 12, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain at isolated places in parts of South Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra.
According to the IMD forecast, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at several places across the state over the next seven days, till September 14. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify on September 12 and 13.During these two days, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli and Bhavnagar.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph, along with light to moderate rain, at isolated places in several districts.On September 14, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places in North Gujarat, South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, indicating that wet conditions will continue in the state.
In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, rain was recorded at a few places in South Gujarat and isolated areas of Kutch. North Gujarat and Saurashtra remained mostly dry.
The IMD said the low-pressure area that was earlier located over central Uttar Pradesh has weakened. Its associated cyclonic circulation is now over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, another low-pressure area is likely to develop over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha around September 11. The system is expected to strengthen rainfall activity over Gujarat in the following days.
