The government has reduced the waiting period for LPG cylinder refill bookings in rural areas from 45 days to 25 days, providing relief to consumers facing longer gaps between bookings.The decision comes after LPG supply disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
As the supply situation has gradually improved, the government has relaxed the earlier restrictions.
LPG Booking Period Reduced to 25 Days
Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi said Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been directed to implement the revised rule immediately.
With the change, LPG consumers in rural areas can now book a refill 25 days after their previous booking. The 25-day gap will bring the rural refill booking period in line with the current booking cycle followed in urban areas.
Rules Relaxed as LPG Supply Improves
The 45-day refill gap was introduced in rural areas amid concerns over LPG availability following disruptions caused by the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.With supplies improving, the government has now reduced the waiting period, easing the pressure on households that depend on LPG cylinders for cooking.
Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Continue to Fall
India relies heavily on imports to meet its energy requirements, with around 60% of its needs being met through imports. Supply disruptions had earlier affected LPG prices and led to changes in refill booking rules.However, commercial LPG cylinder prices have continued to decline in recent months.
In September, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was cut by around ₹9.50 to ₹11.50, depending on the market.This followed price reductions in previous months, offering some relief to commercial consumers.
