Google is expanding its use of artificial intelligence in education with a new set of Gemini-powered study tools aimed at students preparing for major competitive and standardised examinations, including NEET, JEE, GRE, SAT, AP and MCAT.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the initiative as Google also introduced free AI subscriptions for eligible college students across more than 140 countries. The company is positioning the new tools as a way for students to receive more personalised assistance while preparing for exams.
For students in India, Google is offering eligible users a 12-month free subscription to Google AI Plus. The plan includes access to Gemini Omni, higher usage limits and 400 GB of cloud storage. Eligible students in the US, meanwhile, will receive one year of Google AI Pro, which comes with higher usage limits and 5 TB of storage.
The education rollout brings together several AI-based features through Gemini and Google Search. Students can use a dedicated study hub and access tools designed to help them understand topics, revise lessons and test their knowledge.
Among the features are study notebooks, personalised flashcards, practice quizzes and interactive 3D learning aids. Google has also introduced customised quizzes for a range of examinations, including NEET, JEE, GRE, SAT, AP and MCAT.
The study notebooks are designed to create personalised learning experiences based on a student’s goals and knowledge gaps. According to Google, the system can use diagnostic and follow-up quizzes to help track progress and tailor learning material accordingly.
Free Practice Tests for Competitive Exams
For Indian students preparing for NEET-UG, the new tools could offer additional practice opportunities. Google has partnered with education platforms including Physics Wallah and Careers360 to provide full-length practice tests.
Similar preparation support is being offered for international examinations. The Princeton Review is among the education partners providing practice content for exams such as the GRE and ACT. Google’s Search-based quizzes are also available for several other standardised tests.
The tools are designed to go beyond simply generating answers. Students can use them to create quizzes around particular topics, receive explanations for responses and organise study material in dedicated notebooks.
Google’s latest education push reflects the company’s broader effort to integrate Gemini and AI-powered Search into learning. Earlier updates have also introduced features such as interactive visual explanations, AI-generated study documents and tools that can work with students’ own notes and course material.
With competitive exam preparation increasingly moving online, the new features give students another set of AI-based resources for revision and practice. However, the tools are intended as study aids, meaning students will still need to verify information and rely on established textbooks, teachers and official examination material for high-stakes preparation.
