International passengers departing from Indian airports will no longer need to carry a printed boarding pass for immigration clearance from September 1.
Passengers will be allowed to show their e-boarding passes on smartphones at immigration counters. Those who prefer to carry a physical boarding pass can still use it, but immigration officials will no longer stamp the paper document. The change is part of the Bureau of Immigration’s move towards a more digital and paperless immigration clearance process at Indian airports.
Passengers travelling abroad are therefore advised to keep their e-boarding passes easily accessible on their mobile phones while completing immigration formalities.
