The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed a godown in Rakhial after its Food Department found around 3,000 kg of expired food products during an inspection.
The action was taken at Shri Krishna Sales Corporation, located at Shed No. 15, Godown Nos. 1 and 3 at Jai Mangal Estate on Rakhial Road. During the inspection, civic officials found nearly three tonnes of expired food items stored at the premises. The godown was also found to have poor cleanliness and unhygienic conditions.
Following the inspection, the AMC sealed the premises. According to In-charge Additional Medical Officer of Health Tejas Shah, the seized stock included ghee, children’s food products and salt. Officials suspected that the expired products may have been intended for sale in bulk, prompting the sealing of the godown.
Two More Food Establishments Sealed
The civic body also took action against two other food establishments as part of its ongoing food safety inspections. Harihar Kathiyawadi in the South Bopal-Sarkhej area was sealed after a previously collected paneer sample from the establishment was declared unverified. J.B. Dairy and Parlour in Jivraj Park, Jodhpur, was also sealed following an unverified report concerning a ghee sample collected earlier.
AMC Steps Up Food Safety Checks
The AMC Health and Food Department said inspections of food-related businesses across Ahmedabad will continue. Officials said establishments operating without an FSSAI licence or found violating food safety regulations could face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act.
The civic body said the enforcement drive is aimed at preventing the distribution and sale of unsafe or expired food products and protecting public health.
