The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks has signed an MoU with Amazon to make school textbooks available online and deliver them directly to students’ homes at their printed prices.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Gujarat Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja, who said the initiative would help strengthen the state’s education system and make quality learning resources more accessible to students.Under the new arrangement, textbooks for different standards and mediums published by the Board will be listed on Amazon. Students and parents can order the books online without paying any additional delivery charges.
Board Chairman Manubhai Pavra said the initiative would save families the time and effort of visiting bookstores, particularly at the beginning of the academic year. Amazon’s logistics network will help deliver the books across Gujarat. The Board currently supplies around 1.5 crore textbooks every year to self-financed schools through authorised distributors and booksellers.
The online facility is expected to be especially useful for students in self-financed schools who need to purchase textbooks in addition to those provided free of cost by the government.
