The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has intensified inspections of food businesses across the city to ensure the supply of safe and quality food. As part of the drive, the civic body sealed four units, including two dairies, a food outlet and a restaurant.
During inspections, officials found analogue paneer being used at Khodiyar Dairy Farm in Khokhra and Shri Kailash Dughdhalaya in Naranpura. Both units were sealed for violating the State Government’s August 5 prohibition order, with further legal action to follow.
The AMC is also checking the quality of cooking oil used by hotels, restaurants, fast-food outlets, caterers and snack shops. During an inspection at Mumbaiya Misal Vadapav (MMV) in Jagatpur, officials found Total Polar Compounds (TPC) at 31.5%, above the FSSAI-prescribed limit of 25%.
Under food safety regulations, cooking oil containing more than 25% TPC cannot be used for food preparation. The AMC has advised food businesses to avoid repeatedly reheating oil and ensure that used oil exceeding the permissible TPC limit is properly disposed of through authorised agencies.
Meanwhile, the AMC sealed Om Shakti Restaurant in Naroda after officials found an unauthorised artificial food colour being used in its gravy. The civic body said only FSSAI-approved food colours may be used, and that too within permitted food categories and prescribed limits.
Further legal proceedings will be initiated against the units found violating food safety regulations.
