A 19-year-old forensic science student from Ghuma has alleged that her boyfriend sexually assaulted and blackmailed her using a private video. The complaint has been filed against the accused, identified as Kartavya Maniyar, a resident of Satellite, at Bopal police station.
According to the complaint, the woman, who is studying in the second year at a private university, received a video call from Maniyar on August 2. He allegedly asked for her Instagram password, claiming that his account was not working properly. The complainant alleged that he later recorded a private video call and began threatening her with its release.
The accused allegedly made several demands and threatened to make the video public if she did not comply. He reportedly demanded ₹10,000 every month and allegedly forced the woman to cut the first letter of his name on her leg with scissors. Fearing that the video would be circulated, she initially transferred ₹4,000 to him.
The woman further alleged that the accused accessed her Instagram account and uploaded a photograph and a story containing obscene text while blurring her face. He also allegedly threatened her against entering into a relationship with anyone else.
After the harassment continued, the woman’s friends reportedly tried to intervene and persuade the accused to stop. She subsequently blocked him. Her parents also approached the accused’s family in an attempt to resolve the matter, but the issue remained unresolved.
Following the alleged continued harassment and blackmail, the woman approached Bopal police and lodged a complaint against Maniyar. Police have initiated legal action and are investigating the allegations.
