Two AAICLAS security screeners were injured at Varanasi Airport on Sunday after a passenger travelling to Mumbai on an Air India Express flight allegedly fired a round during a weapons check.
According to the Varanasi Airport Director, the incident occurred at around 9:30 am on August 16, 2026. The passenger was travelling with his wife on Air India Express flight IX-1810 and had declared that he was carrying weapons.
During the mandatory weapons check, the passenger allegedly fired a round, injuring two AAICLAS screeners.
The injured personnel were immediately taken to New Laxmi Trauma Centre for medical treatment.
Airport authorities informed the local police following the incident. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the firing.
