Ahmedabad has recorded a sharp rise in the number of vehicles, making traffic congestion across the city more severe. According to the latest data, the city now has 29,05,265 active vehicles, placing Ahmedabad among the top 10 districts in India with the highest number of registered vehicles.
Ahmedabad East alone has over 9.14 lakh vehiclesOf the total vehicles on Ahmedabad’s roads, 9,14,743 are registered in Ahmedabad East. With many households now owning multiple vehicles, the pressure on roads has increased significantly, leading to frequent traffic jams across the city.
Districts with the highest number of vehicles in IndiaAmong Indian districts, Bengaluru tops the list with 73.24 lakh vehicles, followed by Pune (44.26 lakh) and Chennai (31.48 lakh).
Ahmedabad ranks among the top 10, while Jaipur (27.24 lakh), Thane (27.21 lakh), Mumbai Suburban (23.58 lakh) and Lucknow (20.82 lakh) are also among the leading districts in terms of vehicle registrations.
Ahmedabad leads Gujarat in vehicle registrationsWithin Gujarat, Ahmedabad has the highest number of registered vehicles at 29.05 lakh, followed by Surat (20,65,074), Rajkot (12,72,860) and Vadodara (11,82,756), highlighting the state’s growing dependence on private vehicles.
