The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has postponed the special Jaya-Parvati Vrat night celebrations at Sabarmati Riverfront and Kankaria Lake following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall across Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat.
The decision was taken after a meeting between Mayor Hitesh Barot, Standing Committee Chairman Kamleshbhai Patel and Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, keeping public safety in mind.
The annual night programmes, organised for women and children observing the Jaya-Parvati Vrat, will not be held as scheduled due to the possibility of heavy rain.
AMC has appealed to women, girls and their families to cooperate with the decision, stating that it has been taken solely in the interest of public safety. The civic body has also urged citizens to stay alert, take necessary precautions and follow weather advisories and official instructions during the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall.
