The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Gujarat from July 31 to August 2, prompting authorities to declare a holiday in schools and colleges on Friday (July 31) in nine districts, including Ahmedabad.
Educational institutions from Anganwadis to colleges will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Navsari, Kheda, Dang, Narmada, Anand, Chhota Udepur and Valsad as a precautionary measure.
All Educational Institutions in Ahmedabad to Remain Closed
According to the District Education Officer (DEO), the closure applies to all educational institutions in both the eastern and western parts of Ahmedabad.
The order covers all government, grant-in-aid and private schools, including primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as colleges.
School authorities have been instructed to immediately inform students, parents and teachers about the holiday through WhatsApp, SMS and other communication channels. They have also been advised to follow only official instructions and avoid spreading rumours.
AMC Closes Anganwadis Till August 3
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced that all AMC-run Anganwadis will remain closed until August 3 as a precaution against heavy rainfall.
The civic body said the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of children and prevent any inconvenience or risk during the expected spell of heavy rain.
Vadodara Declares Holiday for Schools and Colleges
The Vadodara district administration has also declared a holiday for all Anganwadis, schools and colleges on July 31 following the heavy rain forecast.
The District Collector has warned that action will be taken against institutions that fail to comply with the order.
Holiday in Chhota Udepur and Narmada
In Chhota Udepur, the District Collector has declared a holiday for all primary schools on July 31 due to the heavy rain forecast.
In Narmada, all schools will remain closed after the IMD issued a red alert. The administration has also deployed SDRF and NDRF teams and advised residents to avoid rivers, streams and other vulnerable areas unless necessary.
Valsad Schools Closed, Online Classes Advised
The Valsad district administration has announced a holiday for all government, grant-in-aid and private Anganwadis, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools on July 31 due to the forecast of heavy rain.
The District Education Officer has asked schools to conduct online classes wherever possible to minimise disruption to students’ studies.
