Continuous rainfall has left several roads across Vadodara in a damaged condition, with potholes, caved-in stretches and mudslides creating serious inconvenience for commuters. As the monsoon intensifies, residents have once again begun referring to the city as a “pothole city,” while social media has been flooded with sarcastic posts highlighting the deteriorating road conditions.
One widely shared message reads: “If you can drive five kilometres on Vadodara’s roads without uttering a single swear word, consider yourself a saint.”
Roads in several areas, including Gajarawadi, Bhayli, Bill, Atladara, Gorwa, Sama, Khodiyarnagar and Sardar Estate, have developed large potholes and uneven surfaces. Rainwater has submerged many stretches, making potholes difficult to spot and increasing the risk of accidents for motorists.
Development works related to water supply, drainage and other civic infrastructure are still underway in parts of the city. Authorities have installed barricades at locations where roads have caved in or remain waterlogged. However, residents say these stretches become particularly hazardous after dark, requiring extra caution from commuters.
Concerned citizens have questioned the quality of road construction, pointing out that roads deteriorate after every spell of heavy rain. They attribute the recurring problem to poor restoration of roads after excavation work and the lack of timely, quality repairs and patchwork.
