Heavy rainfall continued to batter Gujarat on Friday, forcing the closure of a major stretch of the Ahmedabad–Rajkot National Highway near Bavla after rainwater flooded the carriageway.
The highway has been closed between Bagodara and Sanathal due to rising water levels, disrupting traffic on one of the state’s busiest road corridors. Authorities have diverted traffic through the Dholera Expressway until conditions improve.
Traffic Diversion Routes
Ahmedabad Rural Police has issued a traffic advisory for commuters.
- Vehicles travelling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot should take the Sanathal–Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway–Vejalka Junction–Bagodara route.
- Vehicles travelling from Rajkot to Ahmedabad have been diverted via Bagodara–Vejalka Junction–Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway–Sanathal.
Police have urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously and follow the designated diversion routes, as several sections of the highway remain waterlogged.
Nearly 900 People Rescued Near Bavla
Meanwhile, around 900 people were stranded in floodwaters near Gallops Park in Bavla. Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams launched a large-scale rescue operation and safely evacuated the stranded residents to secure locations.
