Vadodara’s Dabhoi police detained six foreign students from Papua New Guinea studying at a private university after receiving a complaint about a rashly driven SUV.
Two of the students were booked in separate cases for alleged drunk driving and possession of beer without a permit.Police said they received a 112 emergency call about a red Mahindra Thar near Mahudi Bhagol, alleging that its driver was intoxicated.
A police team intercepted the vehicle and brought all six occupants to the police station for questioning.The driver, identified as Georgeman John Atep (24), was found to be allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Police claimed he showed signs of intoxication and was also driving without a valid licence.
A case was registered against him under the Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant provisions.During the search of the passengers’ belongings, police allegedly recovered beer cans from the bag of Paul Paul Simon. As he did not have the required permit, the beer was seized and sealed, and a separate case was registered against him under the Gujarat Prohibition Act.
The other students travelling in the vehicle were identified as Delilah Pora Rumintz, Frankie Nikki Chandover, Trevor Yaki Lee Daniel, and Samuel Punga Andrew. Police said all six are students of a private university in Waghodia and reside in the university hostel.
Based on a complaint filed by a Dabhoi police station employee, two separate FIRs have been registered, and further investigation is underway.
