The Gujarat State Teachers’ Federation has urged the Commissioner of Higher Education to grant compensatory leave to teachers and non-teaching staff of grant-in-aid colleges who were assigned Census duties during their vacation.
In a representation submitted on Monday, the federation said college staff carried out Census work during their scheduled holidays with dedication and should be compensated under existing government service rules.
The federation said Census is an important national exercise and employees who performed government duties during their vacation should not lose their entitled leave. It has also requested the Commissioner to issue clear instructions to principals of grant-in-aid colleges to ensure uniform implementation across the state.
Federation president Prof. Rajendra Jadav said teachers and staff who remained on duty during their vacation deserve compensatory leave as per government rules and called for a statewide policy to ensure all eligible employees receive the benefit.
