The Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has introduced a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based driving test track for two-wheelers and four-wheelers to make the driving licence test more transparent and accurate.
The new digital testing system, which became operational today, includes RFID tags, face capture, mandatory instructional videos and automated traffic signals. The AI system will automatically assess candidates during the test, and any mistake will result in an automatic failure.
How the New Test Works
Applicants must first register and collect an RFID tag. Before taking the driving test, they are required to watch a mandatory instructional video explaining the test procedure. The system records whether the video has been watched. Those who skip the video will not be allowed to take the test.
After the video, the RFID tag is attached to the applicant’s vehicle. A photograph of the applicant is captured before the test begins, and candidates can start the test only after the traffic signal turns green.
Rules for Two-Wheeler Test
Two-wheeler applicants must complete the serpentine track within 60 seconds.
To pass the test, candidates must:
- Follow the designated route.
- Avoid touching the yellow boundary lines.
- Keep both feet on the vehicle throughout the test.
If a rider puts a foot on the ground even once, it is recorded as a footfall, and the applicant automatically fails.
Rules for Four-Wheeler Test
Four-wheeler applicants must successfully complete several driving tasks, including:
- Reverse “S” track
- English “8” track
- Parallel parking
Candidates must complete each stage within the prescribed time while ensuring the vehicle does not touch the yellow boundary lines, including while entering or leaving the parking area.
The AI-based system records the entire test, allowing applicants to review video footage if needed in case of any dispute or request for a re-test.
