The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is gearing up for a major extension that will connect directly to Bhavnagar. Construction is expected to kick off within the next three months, promising to slash travel time between Ahmedabad and the coastal city.
Currently, it takes almost four hours to make the journey. Once the extension is completed, that time could drop to just two hours under normal traffic conditions. This change could transform how residents and visitors navigate between these important locations.
The announcement came during a high-level review meeting led by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The meeting aimed to assess progress on various National Highway projects across Gujarat.
Officials also provided updates on several other key projects in the state, including the six-laning of National Highway-48 connecting Vadodara and Mumbai, as well as developments along the Morbi-Samakhiyali corridor and other major routes such as Rajkot-Gondal-Jetpur road.
During discussions, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the need for expedited work on the strategically vital Palanpur-Samakhiyali corridor project. With Gujarat’s highway network expanding rapidly, improving connectivity between industrial hubs and ports remains a top priority.
Additionally, there’s an environmental angle: officials were instructed to transplant trees affected by road widening instead of cutting them down. Agencies must now look for suitable spots along expansion routes for relocating these trees while advancing infrastructure work.
