The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two men and seized 9.8 kg of ganja during a raid on Narol-Naroda Road near CTM. The contraband, allegedly brought from Maharashtra for distribution in Ahmedabad, is valued at around ₹5 lakh. Police also seized an auto-rickshaw and two mobile phones, taking the total value of the recovered property to ₹5.60 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch laid a trap after receiving information that Mohammad Sajid Kamaruddin Pathan, a resident of Ramol, would receive a consignment of ganja from a supplier identified as Israel Khan, who had arrived from Maharashtra.
Police said a CNG auto-rickshaw was stationed on the service road near Chunilal Park Society at CTM. Shortly afterwards, Israel Khan arrived from the Express Junction side carrying two bags. As Sajid accepted one of the bags and both men sat inside the rickshaw, the Crime Branch team moved in and apprehended them.
A search of the bags led to the recovery of 9.8 kg of ganja. Besides the narcotics, police seized two mobile phones and the auto-rickshaw used in the transaction. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹5.60 lakh.
During preliminary interrogation, police found that Israel Khan (33), a native of Akola, Maharashtra, had allegedly procured the ganja from Mohsin Baba, also a resident of Akola, and transported it to Ahmedabad for delivery.
The consignment was allegedly meant for Mohammad Sajid Kamaruddin Pathan (42), a resident of Ramol, who had ordered the drugs for retail distribution in the city.
A case has been registered against both accused under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and they have been arrested. Police have also launched efforts to trace and arrest Mohsin Baba, the alleged supplier behind the consignment.
