The Gujarat Police have launched a 28-day statewide campaign, ‘Operation Surakshit Cyberspace’, to improve online safety for women and children through cyber awareness, victim support, technology-based policing and coordinated enforcement.The campaign, which started on July 1 and will continue until July 28, aims to create a safer digital environment by combining public awareness with quick police action and community participation.
Focus on Cybercrime Prevention
According to Gujarat Police, the initiative is aimed at preventing cybercrime through early intervention, timely police response and increased public awareness, helping women and children stay safe online.Ajay Choudhary, Additional Director General of Police, CID Crime (Women Cell), said the campaign will focus on tackling cyberstalking, online exploitation, financial fraud, identity theft and other cyber offences. Police personnel have been instructed to identify potential victims, verify cybercrime alerts, assist people at risk and take prompt action on complaints.
Statewide Awareness Drive
As part of the campaign, Gujarat Police will work with banks, telecom companies, educational institutions, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), NGOs and community leaders to spread awareness about cyber safety.SHE Teams and cybercrime police stations will conduct awareness sessions for women, children, parents and students, encouraging safe online practices.The campaign’s slogan is: “Safety through awareness, investigation through technology, action through law, and a safer Gujarat through public participation.”
Campaign Goals
Under Operation Surakshit Cyberspace, Gujarat Police aim to:
- Educate 25 lakh citizens on cyber safety.
- Encourage 20 lakh students to take the Cyber Safety Pledge.
- Conduct awareness programmes in 10,000 schools and 1,500 colleges.
- Reach one lakh adolescent girls through cyber safety sessions.
- Organise 5,000 awareness programmes for parents.
- Ensure preliminary police action within 24 hours on every cyber complaint involving women and children.
