Applying for a new passport will become costlier from July 1, with the government announcing a revision in passport fees for the first time in several years.
Under the revised rates, a 36-page ordinary passport will cost Rs 2,500, up from the existing Rs 1,500, while a 60-page passport will be priced at Rs 3,500.
Applicants opting for the Tatkal service will also pay higher charges. The fee for a 36-page Tatkal passport has been increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000, while the 60-page Tatkal passport will now cost Rs 6,000.
The government has also revised the fees for the replacement of lost or damaged passports, making these services more expensive under the new fee structure.
