The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed most of the preparations for the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, with extensive arrangements made to ensure the procession is safe, clean and well-organised along its 13-km route.
Ahead of the yatra, the civic body has undertaken road repairs, drainage cleaning, lighting improvements, fire safety measures, health services and citywide cleanliness drives. A special control room will also function from the AMC headquarters on the day of the procession to coordinate emergency response and civic services.
The Engineering Department has repaired damaged roads and footpaths along the route, while drainage lines in Jamalpur, Khadia, Kalupur and Shahpur have been cleaned to prevent waterlogging during the event. Drinking water points have also been set up for devotees throughout the route.
To enhance public safety, the Estate Department has identified 633 dangerous buildings along the procession route and issued warning notices to property owners. AMC staff and police personnel will be stationed near these structures, and barricades will be installed to prevent public access.
The Health Department has deployed seven mobile medical vans, 15 doctors and around 100 healthcare workers to handle medical emergencies. Urban Health Centres in Jamalpur, Raikhad, Shahpur and Kalupur will remain operational throughout the yatra.
The Light Department has inspected 745 electricity poles and completed maintenance of power infrastructure along the route. Around 560 additional floodlights will be installed, while 11 diesel generators will provide backup power. Technical teams from AMC and Torrent Power will remain on standby.
The Fire Department has deployed 203 personnel, including 183 firefighters from 11 fire stations, who will remain on alert until the conclusion of the Rath Yatra.
AMC’s Solid Waste Management Department has planned an extensive cleanliness drive, with hundreds of sanitation workers and road-sweeping machines deployed to keep the route clean. Special vehicles will be used for quick collection and disposal of waste during and after the procession.
The civic body has also arranged 10 mobile toilet vans and five additional toilet units at key locations along the route for the convenience of devotees.
In the North Zone, AMC has issued 135 notices to owners of unsafe buildings and directed them to repair or secure hazardous portions of their properties before the Rath Yatra.
AMC officials said all departments are working in coordination to ensure devotees can participate in the Rath Yatra safely, smoothly and comfortably.
