Authorities have temporarily closed the new Sardar Bridge over the Narmada River in Bharuch for repair and maintenance work ahead of the monsoon season, resulting in the diversion of all vehicular traffic to the nearby cable bridge.
The closure has led to long traffic queues on both approaches to the cable bridge, with commuters facing significant delays during peak hours. Officials said the traffic management arrangement is likely to remain in place for approximately 15 days until the repair work is completed.
The maintenance work has been undertaken as a precautionary measure to ensure the bridge’s safety and operational readiness during the monsoon, when water levels in the Narmada River are expected to rise.
Meanwhile, authorities said traffic movement on the Narmada bridge section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway remains unaffected, with vehicles continuing to move normally on that route.
Motorists travelling through Bharuch have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and expect delays while the repair work on the Sardar Bridge is underway.
