As part of a citywide drive to strengthen student safety, the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) conducted special fire safety inspections at coaching centres, tuition classes, computer training institutes and other educational establishments across Ahmedabad. During the campaign, officials also inspected institutions that do not fall under mandatory fire safety certification requirements to verify whether basic fire safety measures were in place, according to an official press release.
During inspections carried out by fire stations in the North-West Zone on June 23, officials checked the availability and condition of fire extinguishers, emergency exits, access routes, electrical safety systems and other essential fire protection arrangements.
Following the inspections, notices were issued to 17 institutions for deficiencies in fire safety compliance. These included Ayatan Academy, P.M. Bhatt Tuition Classes, Sigma Novo Classes, Future Path Education, Ahuja Education, G-Tech Computer Education, Dwarkesh Education Institute, Yathashakti Education Institute, J.K. Shah Coaching Institute in Navrangpura, Rajshree Study Centre in Naranpura, Allen Career Institute on Sindhubhavan Road, Aakash Educational Services and Unacademy in Thaltej, Amor Design Institute in Vastrapur, Yash Classes, Paresh J. Salut Classes and Aloha Classes near Mansi Cross Road.
During the drive, officials also found that the fire safety certificate of Navkar Digital Institute had expired. The institute was subsequently sealed under the relevant provisions of fire safety regulations.
AFES has urged all educational institutions, coaching centres and tuition classes to ensure the availability of adequate fire safety equipment and emergency preparedness measures to safeguard students and staff. The department said strict action will continue against establishments found violating fire safety norms in the future.
